Leslie - Thursday, July 17, 2008 5:13:35 PM Serge, A million thanks for your efforts in posting this....who knew C&P was fallible? The strange thing is that even if you remove the dash (-), and type it again, it still gives errors. See http://weblogs.asp.net/soever/archive/2007/12/22/sharepoint-stsadm-exe-and-the-infamous-quot-command-line-error-quot.aspx for more information. It appears to be possible to get different encodings while you type your commands in the same command shell. http://thetechvoice.com/command-line/command-line-error-stsadm-rswebparts-cab.html

If you have problems, type your text in an editor like Notepad++, and switch between "Encode in ANSI" and "Encode in UTF-8" (it is under the Format menu in Notepad++). Another post mentioning the problem is this discussion thread. Gud work Dude.. change from '-' to a strange little block...

And the problem was: character encoding... Microsoft Word loves to destroy commands, just like this (changing perfectly fine ASCII hyphens into problematic non-ASCII dashes). Ok, how to repeat this: Start Notepad++, set encoding to ANSI Make sure the path to stsadm.exe is in your path environment variable (or use full path) Type stsadm -o deletesolution this contact form STSADMN is part of SharePoint, and is not 3rd party. –Nullldata May 27 at 13:27 Sometimes you need to go to the directory of STSADM to run an STSADM
